THEATER FOR THE PEOPLE
OPEN TO ALL/PAY WHAT YOU CAN
REGISTRATION HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
(class size will be limited to 12 people)
We will be beginning our theater workshop on February 8th. All levels of experience are encouraged to come. We will be splitting our time between group theater exercises and scene-work. Each week we will determine the scene assignments for the next class. The class is open to all and payment to the class is per class on a pay-what-you-can basis. You can come to one class or every class, the idea is that every Monday we will be there, making work, creating theater and you can join us.
The founding belief of our theater is that the actor, who serves as the foundation to the work, is vehicle for both representation and empathy, and oftentimes these can be in conflict with each other. We will begin with training exercises taken directly from Physical Theater and Clown, as well as a number genre exercises . We will treat both the semiotic body and the physical body, exploring their gestures in conflict. The bulk of the workshop will be finding ways to put the body into conflict with representation (text), in order to generate presence. Scenework will come from a variety of places but may include Chekhov, Ibsen, Maeterlinck, Beckett, Kane, Ionesco, Brecht, and Müller.
Course will be initially taught in English, though if enough students who are interested apply, can also be taught in Spanish
